TRILL Throwback Thursday

The term "Trill" is a collection of the words True and Real, finding it's origination from the dirty South. It has in a sense become one of hip-hops most coined and lauded words, thanks to the Harlem sensation ASAP Rocky and ASAP Worldwide. ASAP Rocky's inflection of Southern elements and east coast blend has been resonating in the hip hop world almost 20 years upon its insurgence.

There have been many individuals responsible for the blossoming of the Southern sound, but none that stand out more brightly than the late great Pimp C and DJ Screw. In fact, the collective Pimp C and Bun B, were UGK (Underground Kings), but DJ Screw had his own faction called Screwed Up Click. Two of the biggest groups in Houston in '96 and when they bridged, you get a smooth melodic, and southern comforting treatment. Honestly, this song with the Isley Brothers sample and chopped and screw does it for me, it's UGK "One Day" off the tape Ridin' Dirty. There comes a time where Hip Hop isn't just contemporary dances, but counseling and motivational sessions.

"I asked God why he let these killers live and take my homeboy's son away
Man if you got kids show em you love em cause God just might call em home
Cuz one day you here but baby the next day you gone" - Pimp C
