The Zen of Steve Jobs: A Graphic Novella

Hands down, one of 2011’s best biographies was Walter Isaacson’s biography of the late Steve Jobs, but there is a significant aspect of Jobs’ life that is underplayed.

The Zen of Steve Jobs is a graphic novella that explores the period of Jobs’s life when he was fired from Apple in the mid-80’s and how he dealt with it. Produced by Forbes and data visualization studio JESS3, The Zen of Steve Jobs examines how Buddhism played an integral role in his triumphant return to Apple and explores how he reconnected with friend, Zen-Buddhist priest, and designer Kobun Chino Otogawa (1938-2002). Otogawa taught Jobs the elements of Zen practice and shared his passion for sophisticated design, and while the book is mostly speculative, it’s graphic simplicity is rich and interesting.
